Introduction

A crucial and fundamental item of the Christian faith is the resurrection* of Jesus Christ from the dead (1 Corinthians 15:1-4, 12-14; Romans 10:9). Christ’s resurrection is living proof that God has accepted Christ’s redemptive work on the cross for our sins (Romans 4:25). A Christian’s belief in the objective, accomplished fact of Christ’s resurrection is vitally related to his subjective experience of the resurrected Christ Himself (Romans 10:9-12). Furthermore, the goal of the believers’ personal experience of the resurrected One is that they would be led into the corporate experience of building up the Body of Christ for the fulfillment of God’s goal (Ephesians 4:15-16).

  • Scriptural Basis—The Facts
  • Christ’s resurrection is amply substantiated throughout the Bible. It was revealed in the Old Testament through prophecies and types, prophesied by the Lord Jesus in the New Testament, recorded in the four Gospels, witnessed by the earlier apostles and disciples, and later testified to by these eyewitnesses.

  • Deeper Meaning—The Revelation
  • Not only does the New Testament record the fact of Christ’s resurrection, but it also unveils the deeper meaning, the intrinsic significance of Christ’s resurrection.

  • Proclaimed and Received—The Gospel and Faith
  • Christ’s resurrection is proclaimed as a central item of the gospel and received as a central item of the faith.

  • Our Experience—Salvation
  • Through Christ’s resurrection, He can be experienced inwardly as the Spirit by His believers for their full salvation.

  • The Goal—God’s Building
  • Christ’s resurrection has as its goal the building up of the Body of Christ, which consummates in the New Jerusalem.
