IntroductionA crucial and fundamental item of the Christian faith is the resurrection* of Jesus Christ from the dead (1 Corinthians 15:1-4, 12-14; Romans 10:9). Christs resurrection is living proof that God has accepted Christs redemptive work on the cross for our sins (Romans 4:25). A Christians belief in the objective, accomplished fact of Christs resurrection is vitally related to his subjective experience of the resurrected Christ Himself (Romans 10:9-12). Furthermore, the goal of the believers personal experience of the resurrected One is that they would be led into the corporate experience of building up the Body of Christ for the fulfillment of Gods goal (Ephesians 4:15-16).
Christs resurrection is amply substantiated throughout the Bible. It was revealed in the Old Testament through prophecies and types, prophesied by the Lord Jesus in the New Testament, recorded in the four Gospels, witnessed by the earlier apostles and disciples, and later testified to by these eyewitnesses. Not only does the New Testament record the fact of Christs resurrection, but it also unveils the deeper meaning, the intrinsic significance of Christs resurrection. Christs resurrection is proclaimed as a central item of the gospel and received as a central item of the faith. Through Christs resurrection, He can be experienced inwardly as the Spirit by His believers for their full salvation. Christs resurrection has as its goal the building up of the Body of Christ, which consummates in the New Jerusalem.
